Department Action
Collin County has been identified by the US Justice Departments Office of Justice Programs as being qualified to receive funding for the purchase of life saving body armor. The maximum award we are eligible for is $233,526.87 with a 50% match of up to $233,526.88 required from Collin County.

The BVP Act of 2000 requires that funding priority be given to jurisdictions with populations under 100,000 residents. Since 1999, over 13,000 jurisdictions have participated in the BVP Program, with $277 million in federal funds committed to support the purchase of an estimated 800,000 vests. The Office of Justice Programs' Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) administers the BVP Program.

Vests are available to the following categories: Police Officers, Sheriff’s Deputies, Adult and Juvenile Jail, Detention Center and Correctional Institution Officers, Judicial Officers, Prosecutorial Officers, Fire Marshals, Arson Investigators, Juvenile Probation Officers, and Adult Parole and Probation Officers. This list is not all inclusive and other categories or positions may qualify but will need to be verified before purchase of a vest.

The Bulletproof Vest Partnership (BVP) Program is a unique U.S. Department of Justice initiative designed to provide a critical resource to state and local law enforcement. The Office of Justice Programs, (OJP) Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) administers the BVP Program.

The BVP Program is now open to accept applications for FY 2017 funds. All applications must be submitted electronically at http://vests.ojp.gov.
