The A&E Network contacted me to see if I would be interested in participating in a weekly reality 30 minute television show called “Night Court”.
The series would profile 9 to 12 courts around the United States who have a night court docket. The network came and filmed a segment of my night court, which was used to profile me as a “Talent” to the A&E executives. They have since asked me to sign the agreement. In reading the contract, there are portions that talk about the use and access to the Jack Hatchel Administration building for filming. Specifically the JP-1 Court area. I am asking the Commissioners Court to review the contract and approve the usage for the television show.
As you may know, I hold night court at the old courthouse on the McKinney square [The McKinney Preforming Arts Center]. The Network has worked out an agreement with the City of McKinney for that facility. The network is interested in the courtroom at the administration building to conduct the interviews with the judge which will be edited for the show.
The reason I want to participate is because the audience can view how court hearings really happen. Everybody involved are real court employees, bound to State statutes and the Code of Judicial Conduct. I am not being paid for my appearance. There is NO financial gain to anybody in my family, employment or community based on the television show. Everything that appears on TV actually happened in a real courtroom.
