Department Action

Commissioners Court approved Discretionary Funding for the design and construction of drainage structures at four (4) locations in October 2014. The specific locations were recommended by Public Works based on the need to address maintenance issues during storm events.

An existing eight (8) foot diameter culvert on County Road 564 at a Branch of Pilot Grove Creek was one of the structures approved for replacement.

It was determined that a large box culvert would be needed at this location and a $500,000 project budget was established. At this time, ninety (90) percent design plans have been completed allowing the engineer to develop a construction cost estimate of $490,746. Taking into consideration the other associated project costs (engineering, right-of-way acquisition, utility relocations and testing services) the project as estimated will dramatically exceed budget.

Given the estimated construction cost in comparison with project benefit, it is recommended that we not proceed to construction. As such, Commissioners Court’s authorization to remove this project from construction consideration is requested.
