Department Action

A new corridor was added to the County’s Mobility Plan in the 2014 Update as a way to provide some relief to the traffic volumes on US 380 east of McKinney. That corridor consists largely of FM 546 and CR 400, from SH 5 in McKinney, through the south side of Lowry Crossing and Princeton to US 380 at Boorman Lane. It is intended to be a six-lane thoroughfare. The first leg of this corridor was recently completed by TxDOT and the City of McKinney from SH 5 to the McKinney National Airport and is called Harry McKillop Blvd.

The Cities of McKinney and Princeton have expressed great interest in the further development of this corridor in addition to the County. It was included as a project in the County’s 2018 bond program. A map is attached which shows a representation of a possible route for this corridor. The first step in the development of this corridor is a study to specifically locate the alignment of the roadway.

The Engineering department is ready to move forward with this project; therefore, we are requesting Commissioners Court authorization to request Statements of Qualifications from engineering firms interested in performing an alignment study, preparation of a design schematic and an environmental analysis for FM 546 from Airport Dr. in McKinney and Lowry Crossing, and CR 400 in Princeton to US 380 near Boorman Ln; 2018 Bond Project #RI8005CO.
