The Collin County District Attorney will donate $2,000 from the District Attorney State Forfeiture Fund to benefit Hope's Door.
This donation is authorized by Texas law. Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Art. 59.06(d-2) states in part that “an attorney representing the state may use as an official purpose of the agency . . . to make a donation to an entity that assists in . . .(1) the detection, investigation, or prosecution of . . . criminal offenses . . . or instances of abuse . . . .; (2) the provision of . . . services for victims or witnesses of criminal offenses or instances of abuse . . . .”
As a shelter for victims of family violence, the purpose and work of Hope's Door squarely fits within the plain words of the statute.
