The FM 546 Corridor Analysis study began in 2020 with the goal of realigning and widening the existing FM 546 from Princeton to McKinney in order to provide another east-west route for travelers who are presently using the overloaded US 380.
BGE was awarded the Phase 1 contract in April of 2020 which included the section from Bridgefarmer Rd, in Lowry Crossing to US 380 in Princeton. We were able to expedite this Phase since this section of roadway would not be on the TxDOT roadway system and had various sections that had already been developed in the city of Princeton. The final public meeting for the selection of an alignment was held on March 25, 2021.
We are ready to start phase 2 which will determine, and environmentally clear, a feasible alignment for a 6-lane major thoroughfare from Bridgefarmer Rd. in Lowry Crossing to the intersection of Harry McKillop Blvd and the current FM 546 in McKinney, TX. This Phase of the analysis will require extensive coordination with TxDOT and many other stakeholders in the area and will include the following tasks: alignment analysis, public/stakeholder involvement, schematic design, NEPA/EA, minor level of service (LOS) traffic analysis, geotechnical investigations, SUE, field surveying, and ROW mapping.
We anticipate this effort to take approximately a year and a half. Final design is not included in this contract and would come later once construction funding is identified.
The total cost for this project is $2,188,240.69. Funds are available in the RI18005CO, FM 546/CR400 Project account. The breakdown of the cost is in the attached Exhibit “C” Fee Schedule. Staff has negotiated the scope and fee and is recommending approval.
ACTION:
We request consideration of the approval of the Contract Amendment #1 with BGE, Inc. to include Phase 2 engineering services for FM 546 from Bridgefarmer Rd in Lowry Crossing, TX to south of the McKinney Airport at Harry McKillop Blvd.
