Department Action

I am requesting Commissioners Court accept the District Attorney Testing of Forensic Evidence Grant FY2024. I was notified, on Friday, September 22, 2023, that this grant application was accepted in the full amount requested. The grant period runs from September 1, 2023, through August 31, 2024. These funds will be used to test multiple drugs for high-level offenders and to test drugs that the DPS labs are unable to analyze. This grant will prevent drug cases from being backlogged at local law enforcement agencies and my office. It will expedite justice to high level offenders and rehabilitation programs for low-level offenders.

Request Commissioners Court consideration and any action regarding approval to accept the Office of the Governor (OOG) grant for District Attorney Testing of Forensic Evidence for $174,750 with no County match required. The grant period is September 1, 2023 through August 31, 2024. gz

Funding will cover to test (THC) content of seized cannabis samples to reduce backlog of marijuana cases and other drugs from high-level offenders.
