I am requesting approval from Commissioners Court to apply for the District Attorney Testing of Forensic Evidence Grant, FY2023.  This grant is provided through the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division.  My office was awarded funds from the FY2022 Grant and we are currently using these funds to test multiple drugs for high-level offenders and to test drugs that the DPS labs are unable analyze.  This grant will prevent drug cases from being backlogged at local law enforcement agencies and my office.  It will expedite justice to high level offenders and rehabilitation programs for low-level offenders.  The Grant period runs from September 1, 2022 to August 31, 2023.

Funding will cover to test (THC) content of seized cannabis samples to reduce backlog of marijuana cases and other drugs from high-level offenders. The grant period is September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2023.

Grant application has been reviewed by the grant review committee as per attached. Grant is for the quantitative tetrahyrdocannabinol (THC) analysis of seized cannabis to be conducted by private, accredited laboratories and prevent further backlog of felony and misdemeanor marijuana cases and analysis of multiple other drugs on high-level offenders. State funding in the amount of $145,960 with no county match required. Grant period is 9/1/2022 through 8/31/2023.
