Department Action

This is to request authorization to apply for the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP) FY2022. SCAAP provides federal payments to states and localities that incurred correctional officer salary costs for incarcerating undocumented criminal aliens with at least one felony or two misdemeanor convictions for violations of state or local law and incarcerated for at least 4 consecutive days.

FY 2022 State Criminal Alien Assistance Program to provide funding based on the number of eligible criminal aliens to be used for correctional purposes only. Grant amount is unknown until funding is awarded.

Auditor's Office Action

Grant application has been reviewed by the grant review committee as per attached. This application is submitted annually through the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) grants system. The funding is calculated using a formula that provides a relative share of funding to jurisdictions that apply and is based on the number of eligible criminal aliens, as determined by Department of Homeland Security (DHS). SCAAP funding is restricted for correctional purposes only. Grant amount will not be known until issuance of award.
