Department Action
The Juvenile Probation Department is respectfully requesting Commissioner’s Court approval to apply for a grant from Reducing Risk for Girls in the Juvenile Justice System.  If awarded, the program will utilize a multidisciplinary approach, the program will effectively address underlying trauma associated with at- risk behaviors and related to delinquent conduct. The Girl’s Empowerment Mentoring Support (GEMS) Program will work with at-risk girls and juvenile offenders. The program will provide treatment/counseling for participants and group counseling/meetings with families, and seek to create places of healing for participants and family.The grant request is for $525,000 with no county match.   
Purchasing Department Action
Request Commissioners Court consideration and any action regarding approval to apply for Office of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention program to reduce risk for girls in the juvenile justice system for $525,000 with no County match required, and authorize County Judge to execute same. The grant period is September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2025.
 
HR and/or IT Action
FY22 GEMS Grant in the amount of $312,271 in personnel cost for one (1) new position (increase to headcount by 1) in pay grade 539. Budgeted personnel costs appear sufficient for the estimated cost of salary and fringe over a three (3) year period. Grade, title and salary of new position are subject to HR approval upon grant award.  Grant period is September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2025.
Budget Department Action
Reducing Risk for Girls in the Juvenile Justice System Grant Application FY 2022 in the amount of $525,000 in federal funds. No county match required. Grant Application for one (1) new position (addition to headcount by 1) funded at 100% as well as equipment, supplies and contractual services. Grade, title and salary of new position are subject to HR approval upon grant award.  Grant period is September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2025.
 
Auditor's Office Action
Grant application has been reviewed by the grant review committee as per attached. Grant to provide services to Girls/Juveniles that need services as an alternative to subjecting those defendants to the criminal justice system. Federal funds in the amount of $525,000. Grant period is September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2025.
