Department Action

Request Commissioners Court approval and any action regarding the approval to remove sprinkler heads from cells in the existing detention facility.
For FY22, the Court approved $231,000 to fund a PIP to replace the sprinkler heads from cells in the existing detention facility with tamper-resistant sprinkler heads. I would like to modify this PIP to remove the sprinkler heads in certain inmate occupied areas of the jail. As part of the review process under section 511.0097, Gov't Code, the County must provide an engineering study of the proposed removal to TCJS. Therefore, the SO asks the Commissioners Court to approve (1) modifying the PIP project to remove the sprinkler heads instead of replacing them and (2) using $14,400 of the $231,000 for the related engineering study. The County's current contractor, MD Engineering, estimated this cost for the scope of work in a November 10, 2022 letter.
