Department Action

The Tax Office is requesting an upgrade from a dongle to an e-key to mass post Property Tax payments.

The dongle is a physical key that pulls the tax payment information from the Opex machine into RTL readable batches. The dongle collects the data and populates the payment information so that it can be verified easier and promotes faster posting. Without the dongle, all payments will need to be keyed in manually defeating the purpose of the Opex machine and the RTL software.

RT Lawrence has indicated to our office that our physical dongle will expire on February 28, 2023. They would like for us to take this opportunity to upgrade to the e-key as they are already phasing out the physical dongle.

E-key conversion is originally priced at $2,500. However, RT Lawrence is giving a one-time special discount reducing the conversion to $950. The annual maintenance of $800 will remain the same as it was with the dongle.

Should our office choose to renew and continue to use the physical dongle, an additional $300 will be added into the dongle's annual support and the renewal will be yearly until it is no longer supported. Collin County currently pays a total of $800 for annual maintenance support. Per RT Lawrence, if the Tax Office does not upgrade to the e-key now, the annual price will increase to $1,100 yearly plus a 5% yearly increase.

Converting to the e-key at this time will save Collin County the additional cost for RT Lawrence to support the physical dongle. The Tax Office will also benefit from the conversion making the posting of Property Tax payments more streamlined and efficient.
