Department Action

The Parks Foundation Board voted on April 8 to recommend to the Commissioners Court that $750,000 in Open Space Bonds be allocated to major construction projects at Myers Park. Some of the buildings have serious foundation or structure failures. The restoration of the integrity of these buildings have not been able to be funded through the PIP process and the failures have reached a critical state. Some additional vital re-construction projects have also been identified. Funds are available from the allocations for previous 2007 projects that have been completed.
The Board met at Myers Park on April 8 to view the failed areas and discuss the proposed solutions. The result was their recommendation to use bonds to move as soon as possible to thoroughly investigate the problems and re-construct what is necessary to provide the buildings the necessary extended life. The projects consist of

Show Barn foundation investigation and partial re-construction
Stall Barn foundation investigation and partial re-construction
Confinement historical structure report and restoration
Granary historical structure report and restoration
Amphitheatre partial re-construction
Convert two sections of road to concrete

Action Requested: It is requested that Commissioners Court approve the allocation of $750,000 in Open Space Bonds to major construction projects at Myers Park. It is also requested that the Court approve the following budget adjustments to move funds into new project codes for the first tasks:
$50,000 from OI07PG48 4015 750600044 626550 to OI07PG106 4015 750600044 809150 for investigation of Show Barn foundation failure
$25,000 from OI07PG48 4015 750600044 626550 to OI07PG108 4015 750600044 809150 for historical structures report for the Confinement building
$25,000 from OI07PG48 4015 750600044 626550 to OI07PG109 4015 750600044 809150 for historical structures report for the Granary
$50,000 from OI07PG48 4015 750600044 626550 to OI07PG107 4015 750600044 809150 for investigation of Stall Barn foundation failure

Budget Department Action

Budgeted funds available in the amount of $750,000 from completed 2007 Open Space Bond Projects for allocation to Myers Park for needed repairs and improvements. A Budget Adjustment is included in the amount of $150,000 to fund the cost of investigating the issues for four of the projects recommended by the Parks Foundation Board. The remaining funding will be moved for the first four projects once a solution and cost have been determined. 2007 Open Space Fund (4015).
