Department Action

The Collin County District Attorney will use up to $6,000 of State Forfeiture Funds to host, in conjunction with the Plano Police Department, a two-day search warrant training (Aug. 25^th & 26^th) in Plano for law enforcement and prosecutors. The funds will cover fees, expenses, and materials. The training has been pre-approved for TCOLE (peace officer) and MCLE (attorney) credit.

This use of the State Forfeiture Fund is specifically authorized by Texas law. Article 59.06 (d-4) of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure specifically authorizes expenditures for: “(3) prosecution and training-related travel expenses, including payment for hotel rooms, airfare, meals, rental of and fuel for a motor vehicle, and parking; (4) conferences and training expenses, including fees and materials.” These expenditures fit within the plain words of the statute.
