I am requesting permission to transfer sixteen (16) Rock River AR-15 rifles from the Sheriff’s inventory to our Collin County Constables. The Sheriff’s Office is conducting an agency-wide inventory and has discovered a number of old firearms that should go to surplus, be sold, or destroyed. As part of this on-going inventory, it was discovered that the Sheriff’s Office has sixteen (16) Rock River AR-15 rifles. Many of these rifles had been in storage for some time. All of these rifles were thoroughly cleaned and serviced, and now function properly.
In an effort to standardize operations and utilize rifles that will accept mil spec night vision related devices on their upper and side rails, Collin County Deputy Sheriffs were recently issued mil spec FNH AR-15 rifles. Rather than destroy, surplus, or sell the non-mil spec Rock River rifles, I am requesting that they be divided equally between our four Collin County Constables. All four Constables have expressed an interest in receiving the weapons.
I am proposing to transfer four rifles to each Constable as outlined on the attached inventory sheet. Thank you for your consideration in this matter.
