Department Action

The Collin County District Attorney will donate an additional $500.00 from the District Attorney State Forfeiture Fund to benefit the Texas Rangers with security equipment. The upgraded security feature on Ranger Mankin’s service vehicle had an additional estimated cost of $500.00 over the $1,811.55 originally donated.

This purchase will allow necessary weapons systems to be secured in Ranger Mankin’s vehicle to respond to active-shooter-type threats in Collin County with decreased response time and appropriate amount of firepower. Additionally, the upgraded security feature will allow the secure storage of other equipment - such as crime scene response equipment - which will allow for a more prompt and thorough processing of major/violent crime scenes in Collin County.

This donation is authorized by Texas law. Article 59.06(d-2) of the Texas Code of Criminal Procedure states in part that “an attorney representing the state may use as an official purpose of the agency … to make a donation to an entity that assists in … the detection, investigation, or prosecution of … criminal offenses … or instances of abuse ….” The Texas Ranger’s purpose and work fits within the plain words of the statute.
