Department Action

The Information Technology Department would like to request approval from Commissioner’s Court to utilize savings from completed “EOL Switch/Router Replacement Project”, Project Code#: P06008 to cover funding for “Upgrade Nagios Project” in the amount of $9,000.00. This project has been requested in the FY2018 Budget, but if approved now to use the left over funds from the “EOL Switch/Router Replacement Project” the request will be removed from the FY2018 Budget.

FY2018 Budget - Program Improvement Information:

Current Situation: Currently the county uses an open source version of Nagios for network monitoring and uptime. It detects network outages and notifies the IT personal responsible the uptime of the equipment. Nagios is also used to monitor the voice systems and some applications running in the data center. Unfortunately, the open source version doesn’t include support, and management of this version is complicated and time consuming.

Detailed Description: This request is to purchase Nagios version XI for network monitoring and software support. In the new version with the addition of the web console for configuration and management IT users will have more visibility to work on the product. This will also give the IT department the ability to contact support to trouble shoot Nagios issues that we are currently having.

Please note that there is no requirements pending that requires the project to begin before FY2018 adopted budget.

Request is for the creation of a new project for the upgrade of Nagios and required budget adjustment for the same in the amount of $9,000. Funding to come from a completed EOL Switches and Routers Project. Request was originally submitted as an FY 2018 Department Improvement through the budget process and is being considered. See attached memo for more research. General Fund (001).
