Department Action

The Information Technology Department would like to request approval from Commissioner’s Court to utilize savings from completed “IBM System x3650 Project”, Project Code#: S06108 to cover funding for “Print Server Replacement Project” in the amount of $17,000.00. This project has been requested in the FY2018 Budget, but if approved now to use the left over funds from the “IBM System x3650 Project” the request will be removed from the FY2018 Budget.

FY2018 Budget - Program Improvement Information:

Current situation: The current situation is that we have print servers that are over five years old. These systems are very old by computer standards. These systems allow county employees to print to network printers. With the county removing printers and using more and more network printers it is essential to have good working hardware. Currently IT has had issues with some of the hard drives failing on these systems. With the aging technology it is only a matter of time until the system board or other hardware devices start to fail.

Detailed description: The Collin IT department would like to replace these systems with faster processors and additional memory. These servers would provide better service and reliability to the employees. If these systems are not replaced the county is looking to have down time until the failed system can be repaired or replaced.

Please note that there is no requirements pending that requires the project to begin before FY2018 adopted budget.

Request is for the creation of a new project for a Print Server Replacement and required budget adjustment for the same in the amount of $17,000. Funding to come from a completed IBM Servers project. Request was originally submitted as an FY 2018 Department Improvement through the budget process and is being considered. See attached memo for more research. General Fund (001).
