Attached is a proposed MOU that we created with Alyse Ferguson and Terry McCraw, as required in our application for SB292 grant funds. Bill B. also reviewed it. The purposes of SB292 are to “reduce recidivism to the jail and to divert from jail” (when treatment is more appropriate) for individuals with severe mental illnesses. While LifePath is the applicant, it is really from a “community collaborative” that must include the LBHA (LifePath) and Collin County…so any changes to the original intent would have to be approved by both participants before it was submitted to the state. The MOU is how we prove that we are working together on this plan.

We were all in agreement that the plan we have developed is probably the best use of the funds to meet the mission of the grant. Here are the important pieces of the plan to know:

The biggest portion of the funds will go to providing a contract for hospitalization for individuals in the jail that everyone agrees needs instead to be hospitalized for mental health issues
The other smaller portion will go to hire 3 new field-based LifePath staff that work specifically with individuals released or diverted to be sure they stay connected with mental health services
We are showing all match as in-kind and therefore are not asking for any funds from the County
