Department Action
Attached for approval is the FY2019 Zika funding through the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS). The FY2019 award is a no-cost extension of the original FY2017-FY2018 Zika funding award for Collin County totaling $187,574. The amendment will also extend the current contract for ELC and VC funds, totaling $147,300, through July 31, 2019. The purpose of the Zika funding is to support local health departments in their timely identification and investigation of Zika cases and potential outbreaks in our community. Additionally, the funding is meant to enhance preparedness, outreach, response, and surveillance activities for public health agencies. Our county’s amended budget reflects the changes necessary in order to fully use the remaining program funds towards protecting our community. The budget includes the provision of one additional Zika program intern, for a total of three Zika program interns’ personnel costs, travel expenses for staff training, mosquito trapping equipment/supplies, education materials, Zika home and/or personal preparedness kits, environmental control supplies, dissemination of information through various media outlets, and contracted laboratory and clinical services for surge capacity in testing individuals for Zika and other program needs. Zika continues to be a public health concern on a national, state, and local level. By accepting the available Zika funding, Collin County Health Care Services (CCHCS), in collaboration with our Public Health Emergency Preparedness team, Development Services group, and local environmental health agencies, is fortifying our capacity to monitor and respond to Zika in Collin County.
