Information
Department Action
I respectfully request the Court to consider and approve a 90 day Burn Ban for the unincorporated areas of Collin County. The Keetch-Byram Drought Index (KBDI) is an estimation of soil moisture to 8 inches which is facilitated by the Texas A&M Forest Service. The KBDI is updated daily. The range is a scale from 0 which represents no moisture depletion to 800 which represents absolutely dry conditions. Currently Collin County is at a minimum of 532, high 643, average 573. The recommended level for Burn Ban consideration is 575. The County has gained 7-10 points daily over the past several weeks.
There is not an appreciable amount of precipitation forecasted for the next 10 days. In addition, forecast models are indicating high temperatures nearing 105 degrees.
