The Sheriff’s Office respectfully requests a budget amendment in the amended amount of $2,508,020.00 to fund the projected Inmate Housing shortfall for the remainder of FY 2024. Collin County has multiple ILAs for out-of-county inmate housing. The Sheriff’s Office is housing approximately 100 inmates out of county per day at LaSalle Corrections ($95/inmate/day) and Burnet County Sheriff’s Office ($85/inmate/day). This is in addition to associated transport fees and medical charges for inmate healthcare. In this amended budget amendment, I am requesting an additional $2,508,020.00 to cover the projected budget shortfall in order to fund 100 beds (including transport fees and healthcare costs) for the remainder of the fiscal year.
The Collin County Sheriff’s Office is currently exercising these ILAs due to high inmate population, Texas Commission on Jail Standards code requirements related to inmate classification housing, mandatory housing separations based on gender, backlog with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Prison Transport, backlog with the Texas State Mental Health Hospital bed availability, and continuous facility maintenance.
