District Courts are requesting a current Sheriff's Office Detention Officer underfill a court officer position. To underfill this position, the candidate,Cletis Rose, will complete an underfill agreement to obtain his Basic Peace Officer Certification within 12 months and will remain a "Detention Officer" in title until he has completed the requirements, per the agreement. Mr. Rose must be compensated for the time spent obtaining the license as time worked. Based on the memorandum, the department is aware of the time required to obtain the license and fulfill his duties as a court officer underfill and will be able to limit his hours to 80 to 84 hours per week. This position is a full time, non-exempt position, scheduled to work 40 hours per week. Therefore, any hours worked exceeding 40 hours per week will be earned as compensatory time. The department states the additional cost will be offset by the cost savings involved in this request. Annual salary savings is $8,326.71. With possible increases and fringe, the estimated savings for 12 months is $10,383. His transfer date will be on 5/15/2023, if approved by Commissioners Court. Underfill Agreement attached.
Budget Department Action
Savings from vacant positions will cover the costs associated with the underfill of the requested position in FY 23. Carryforward of salary and benefit savings will be applied to the FY 24 budget to cover any additional costs associated with this request. (0001) - General Fund.
